Guided Tour
About
Daily costumed guided tours through 1,000 years of Oxford Castle Prison's history, including the Norman crypt, prison cells and St George's Tower.
A costumed guide leads visitors on an immersive indoor tour through the site's 1,000-year history, from its origins as a military castle through its time as a prison from the 1500s until 1996. The route includes the candle-lit Norman crypt, 18th-century prison cells and a climb of 101 steps up Saxon St George's Tower for panoramic views of Oxford. Tours last around 50 minutes to an hour, run every 20-30 minutes daily from 10am to 5pm, and are capped at 20 people; afterwards visitors can explore the exhibition at their own pace.
