Dingwall: Dig Where You Stand - The Lovedarg | Work Done for Love
About
A workshop exploring the Scottish lovedarg tradition of freely given work, using archives, conversation and hopeful mapping of mutual care in Dingwall.
This session, led by ethnologist Mairi McFadyen, examines the lovedarg — a rural Scottish tradition of giving a day's work freely to a neighbour, celebrated with food and music. Participants will explore archive material and oral histories, then discuss where similar cultures of mutual care exist today. The format combines talk, conversation and creative 'hopeful mapping' of the home place, ending with tea and cake. It is part of a ten-workshop programme for Fèis Rois and Dingwall 800 exploring the cultural memory of Dingwall from late summer to midwinter.
