Dig Where You Stand: Winter Gathering | An Taigh Cèilidh Geamhraidh
About
A winter gathering exploring the Highland taigh cèilidh tradition through talk, archives, music, song and step dance, part of the Dig Where You Stand programme.
Ethnologist Sophie Stephenson has researched the taigh cèilidh tradition in Gaelic-speaking Scotland and Cape Breton. In this session she and Mairi McFadyen draw on archive sources and living memory to reflect on culture as something lived and shared between generations. The format combines talk, archives, conversation, music, song and step dance, with tea and cake, and invites participants to share what they have learned across the programme. It forms part of a wider series of ten workshops developed by Mairi McFadyen for Fèis Rois and Dingwall 800 exploring the cultural memory of Dingwall.
