Welsh National Opera - Bluebeard's Castle and Oedipus Rex

Welsh National Opera performs a double bill of Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle and Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex in one staging at New Theatre Oxford.

Welsh National Opera presents a double bill of two twentieth-century operas on a shared, starkly staged set. In Bluebeard's Castle, Judith opens the locked doors of Duke Bluebeard's home and uncovers his secrets; in Oedipus Rex, the king of plague-stricken Thebes pursues a truth he cannot escape. The performance runs about two hours 40 minutes including an interval, is sung in Hungarian and Latin with English and Welsh surtitles, and is suitable for ages 12 and over.
