Exhibition: Translating the Bible
About
An exhibition marking the 500th anniversary of Tyndale's New Testament, showcasing Bible translations from Christ Church's collections.
This exhibition marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of the first completed edition of William Tyndale's New Testament, freshly translated from the Greek. It draws predominantly on Christ Church Library's collections, including a 13th-century French manuscript New Testament and English translations by Wycliffe, Coverdale and Tyndale, alongside printed editions in languages from around the world. A highlight is Brasenose College's 13th-century Founder's Bible, lent by the Principal and Governing Body of Brasenose College and exhibited in public for the first time; the manuscript will also feature in a study day on Saturday 24th October. Opening hours are Tuesday 10am–1pm and Wednesday 1–4pm, with other times by appointment; there is no step-free access.
