Kudzu: and other natural fibres in Japan
About
An exhibition of Japanese natural fibre fabrics, focusing on kudzu, the first such collection shown outside Japan.
This Green Maker Initiative exhibition presents the first collection of Japanese natural fibre fabrics ever shown outside Japan, centring on kudzu (Japanese arrowroot) alongside hemp, cotton, wisteria vine and tree bark fibres. It displays traditional clothing pieces and traces the making process from raw material to finished fabric through photos and video. Master kudzu craftsman Tatsuhiko Murai and fellow makers share the skills behind this once-common household craft now being revived. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
