About

An exhibition of Japan’s natural-fibre textile traditions, focusing on kudzu and the revival of fabric-making knowledge led by master craftsman Tatsuhiko Murai.

Japan has a long history of household textile making with hemp, cotton, kudzu vine, wild wisteria and tree bark. This exhibition follows natural-fibre fabric from raw material to finished cloth through photographs, video and traditional garments. It focuses on kudzu, also known as Japanese arrowroot, and the revival of fibre-making knowledge led by master craftsman Tatsuhiko Murai.
