Double Bill: Ariadne | Dido & Aeneas

English Touring Opera presents a double bill of Elena Langer's Ariadne and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, performed in English with surtitles.

English Touring Opera's Autumn Double Bill pairs two one-act operas about love and loss. The first half is Elena Langer's Ariadne, a 20-minute setting of Glyn Maxwell's poem for soprano, retelling the myth of Ariadne abandoned by Theseus. The second is Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, an hour-long English baroque classic of doomed love, directed by Rebecca Meltzer with Alex Robinson conducting a period-instrument orchestra. Both works are performed in English with English surtitles.
