About
A free site-specific installation by Claire Barclay at The Wyllieum, responding to Greenock and the work of George Wyllie as part of RSA200 celebrations.
The Wyllieum's first specially commissioned site-specific exhibition, created by Claire Barclay for its main gallery as part of the Royal Scottish Academy's 200th anniversary celebrations. The installation uses marine materials such as canvas, leather, steel, rope and grease to respond to the gallery space and the surroundings of the Firth of Clyde, drawing on shared inspirations between Barclay and George Wyllie, including his 1980s friendship with Joseph Beuys. Themes include the pull between land and sea, nautical craft skills, and the emotional weight of everyday materials. The exhibition runs until 1st November 2026 and is funded by a grant from the Henry Moore Foundation.
