Nemota
About
A group exhibition at Prokofiev Studio pairing Oleg Prokofiev's work with three contemporary artists, exploring sound, silence and communication beyond language.
NEMOTA takes its title from Oleg Prokofiev's poem I Like the Music of the Spheres, in which it denotes muteness or wordlessness, and uses ideas of sound, silence and communication beyond language as its conceptual starting point. Oleg Prokofiev's paintings, sculpture, poetry and music provide the historical anchor, shown alongside work by Igor Ominin, Meg Shirayama and Eddie McLean Kaye, whose practices engage with construction, pattern, movement and material. The exhibition is staged throughout Prokofiev Studio itself, with visitors moving between archive, music studio, domestic elements and gallery areas, and treats sound as a material within the space. Viewing is by appointment, with a private viewing on 4 November from 6 to 9 pm.
