The Art of Hydrangea Pruning | Gardening Workshop
About
A hands-on gardening workshop at Heligan teaching how to identify hydrangea types and prune each correctly, with practice in the garden.
Led by one of Heligan's gardeners, this outdoor workshop teaches participants to identify the main kinds of hydrangea and understand how each flowers, explaining why lacecaps need light pruning while mopheads and paniculatas can be cut back hard. Attendees learn to remove old and crossing wood and shape plants, then practise with secateurs in the garden, guided throughout. Cornwall's acid soils, which give many hydrangeas their deep blue colour, are discussed as part of ongoing care. Beginners are welcome and all equipment is provided.
