About
Free open days at the Museum of Bath Stone, a micromuseum exploring the geology, history and engineering of Combe Down's famous building stone.
The Museum of Bath Stone opens its doors for two free open days, inviting visitors to discover the story of the stone of Combe Down. Exhibits cover the geology and archaeology of Bath Stone, its social history, the ecology of the area's important bat populations, and the engineering of the quarries. The museum explains how this Jurassic freestone, hewn by hand with axes, saws and picks, shaped Bath's architecture and was used in buildings such as Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.
