About

A sold-out four-part Friday film course on classic Hollywood genres with lecturer John Wischmeyer, each followed by an optional matinee screening.

John Wischmeyer, cinema lecturer at City Lit, leads a four-part Friday morning course exploring classic Hollywood genres: Western, melodrama, romance and film noir. Each 11am–12:30pm session examines a genre's history, themes and visual style, followed by an optional 1:30pm matinee screening of a landmark film — Shane, Written on the Wind, Only Angels Have Wings and The Big Sleep. Course attendees receive a discounted screening ticket, with tea, coffee and biscuits provided during intervals.
