Guided Walk of Rye
About
A guided walk through Rye explores the town’s history, from its Cinque Port past and smuggling to its changing coastline and notable residents.
Starting at the Rye Heritage Centre entrance, guides lead visitors over Rye’s cobbled lanes and alleyways, sharing stories from before the Norman Conquest to the present day. The route covers French raids, fires, smuggling and the changing coastline, with views from the upper town. Allow around 90 minutes. The steep, uneven route is not recommended for wheelchair users, mobility-scooter users or visitors with limited mobility. Not suitable under 8; under-12s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. Dogs, prams and pushchairs are not allowed.
