Pontefract Castle Dungeon Tour

A 45-minute guided tour of Pontefract Castle's underground dungeon, exploring its history and Civil War prisoners' graffiti.

Guided tours take visitors into the eerie underground dungeon at Pontefract Castle, where Civil War prisoners scratched their names into the rock. Tours last around 45 minutes and run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10:45am, with extra tours during school holidays and special event days. The route involves 44 steep historic steps, low light and uneven ground, so it is not suitable for under-5s, visually impaired visitors or wheelchair users.
