Shear Brass - Celebrating Sir George Shearing

Shear Brass, led by Sir George Shearing's great nephew Carl Gorham, performs a big-band celebration of the jazz pianist's music at The Apex.

Shear Brass brings a fresh big-band-meets-small-group take on the music of British jazz pianist and composer Sir George Shearing, led by his great nephew, drummer Carl Gorham. The set reinterprets classics like 'Conception' and 'Lullaby of Birdland' alongside lesser-known tunes, spanning swing, be-bop, cool and Latin jazz plus celebrated vocal numbers. Carl comperes the show, weaving in family history and Shearing's trademark wit. The line-up features UK soloists including James Pearson on piano, Anthony Kerr on vibraphone and Sarah Moule on vocals.
