Come and Listen: An Advent Celebration in Song
About
An Advent choral concert at St Mary's Church, Shinfield featuring Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio, Handel's Messiah and works by Bach, Berlioz, Kodály and Mendelssohn.
A regional choir joins soloists, organ and string quartet for an evening of Christmas choral music on the eve of Advent. The first half features Kodály's Veni Emmanuel, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio; the second half moves from Bach's Wachet auf and Berlioz to an abridged Part 1 of Handel's Messiah ending with the Hallelujah Chorus and a festive encore. Conducted by Beth Fitzpatrick, the concert runs from 6pm to 8:30pm with a 30-minute interval, and the bar stays open until 9:30pm.
