Grave Tidings

The BBC Philharmonic with guitarist Sean Shibe and conductor Naomi Woo performs a programme exploring funeral music, ancient and modern, at the RNCM.

Sean Shibe joins the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Naomi Woo, for an intimate programme examining the pageantry, rites and emotions of funeral music. The programme spans Purcell's Funeral Music for Queen Mary and Bruckner's Aequales, alongside works by Sir George Benjamin, Julia Wolfe, Alex Paxton, Cassandra Miller and György Kurtág, including Miller's Chanter, built from a recording of Shibe singing along to a folk song by smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul.
