About
The Ali Watson Quartet perform meditative improvised music blending jazz, contemporary classical and Scottish folk at the Tolbooth.
Led by upright bassist Ali Watson with Matt Carmichael on tenor saxophone, Greg Irons on drums and Tim Lallemant on piano, the quartet plays a quiet, meditative sound combining lyrical melodies with spacious improvisation. Their influences span jazz, contemporary classical music and Scottish folk. Their debut album 'Terrarium' (2024) was praised by Jazzwise, Paris Move and UK Jazz News, and a follow-up album recorded in August 2026 is due for release later that year.
