Celestial Art: Edward Higginbottom's 80th Birthday Concert

A baroque choral and orchestral concert marking Edward Higginbottom's 80th birthday, with Purcell, de Lalande and Handel performed at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin.

This celebratory concert marks Edward Higginbottom's 80th birthday and falls on the eve of St Cecilia's Day. The programme pairs Purcell's ode Hail! Bright Cecilia with Michel-Richard de Lalande's Dies irae, marking the 300th anniversary of that composer's death, and closes with Handel's coronation anthem My Heart is Inditing. Fourteen soloists from the Oxford Consort of Voices join a large period-instrument ensemble from Instruments of Time & Truth, with Higginbottom conducting.
