Claire Blencowe: Spirits of Extraction with Michael Malay

A discussion featuring Claire Blencowe and Dr. Michael Malay regarding the history of Wesleyan Methodism and its role in the British Empire and colonial extraction.

The event centers on Claire Blencowe's book, Spirits of Extraction, which explores the history of Wesleyan Methodism and its involvement in the expansion of the British mining industry during the Empire. Blencowe will be in conversation with Dr. Michael Malay. The book argues that extractive industries retain a sacred power in politics, enforced through projects to civilise or erase those who resist.
