‘On Golden Sands’ – The Story of Beaches in Art, a fundraising talk by Tania Harrington MA (1)
About
Art historian Tania Harrington gives a fundraising talk tracing how artists from the Victorians to the Surrealists depicted beaches, sand and sea.
Art historian Tania Harrington leads a two-hour fundraising talk (including a 20-minute break) on how artists have captured sand, shores and sea in paintings. The talk traces the beach theme from Victorian times, when railways made coastal trips easy, through light-filled Impressionist scenes of leisure and play, to Modernist and Surrealist works where the beach becomes a setting for dreams. Artists discussed include William Dyce, William Merritt Chase, Meret Oppenheim, Laura Knight, Sorolla, Dali and Picasso. Proceeds support the registered charity Anteros Arts Foundation.
