From Wigan to Atlanta: A Talk by David Yeates

David Yeates talks about discovering the identity of his father, a Black GI based at Burtonwood, and meeting his family in Atlanta.

David Yeates grew up in Ashton-in-Makerfield without knowing why he felt different. As an adult he learned that his father was a Black GI based at Burtonwood Air Base; in 2002 he travelled to Atlanta, met his father and was welcomed by his extended family. He shares this story and reflections on identity that inform his forthcoming memoir. Advance booking is required; refreshments will be served.
