The Two Gentlemen of Verona

The Marlowe Society stages Shakespeare's early comedy of two friends, a betrayed love and two quick-witted servants, in a modern-dress production directed by Stephen Unwin.

Proteus betrays his beloved Julia and then his closest friend Valentine when both men fall for Sylvia, while their servants Speed and Launce give as good as they get. The Marlowe Society's modern-dress staging is directed by Stephen Unwin, who directed Tilda Swinton in Man to Man at the Royal Court. The company has launched the careers of actors including Tilda Swinton, Simon Russell Beale, Ian McKellen, Derek Jacobi and Emma Thompson, and continues to stage the university's work.
