“Veni Emmanuel”

A free annual Advent Sunday service of carols, hymns, prayers and readings led by the Abbey Choir and the Vicar at Selby Abbey.

Selby Abbey's annual Advent Sunday service, named after the hymn O Come, O Come Emmanuel, marks the beginning of Advent with carols, prayers, hymns and readings. The Abbey Choir and the Vicar, Canon John Weetman, lead the hour-long service, which features music including Palestrina's Matin and Vesper Responsories, Vaughan Williams's The Truth from Above, Mendelssohn's How lovely are the messengers, Stanford's Benedictus in C and plainsong Great Advent Antiphons. The service is non-ticketed and open to all.
