Guided Tour of Selby Abbey
About
A free 75-minute guided tour of Selby Abbey exploring its monastic history and architecture, meeting at the West Door.
Meet your guide at 10.30am inside the West Door of Selby Abbey for a tour lasting about 75 minutes. The walk covers the history of the first monastery established in the North of England after William the Conqueror's arrival in 1066, taking in the abbey's Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Visitors hear how the building survived two great fires, the collapse of the central tower and the dissolution of the monasteries, and remains a place of pilgrimage, prayer and worship. No booking is required; the tours are free with donations invited.
