John Byrne: Blurred Boundaries
About
An exhibition of John Byrne's hand-painted furniture alongside his paintings, drawings and prints, at The Fine Art Society.
The exhibition presents John Byrne's painted furniture within the tradition of artist-decorated domestic objects, from folk art to the Bloomsbury group. Highlights include a mid-century cabinet with his recurring oak leaf motif, a wardrobe with an autumnal tree shedding leaves like confetti, and a dressing table shaped by a wind-bent tree, with portraits of his companions Thistle the rabbit and Misha the dog. Alongside the furniture hang paintings, drawings and prints by Byrne and works by artists from his collection, many available to buy.
