Solstice Photography Exhibition
About
An exhibition of photographer Mat Arney's six-year 'surfscape' project, showing painterly seascapes captured at sunrise and sunset on the solstices.
Photographer Mat Arney has spent five years making 'surfscape' images at his local beach at the minute of sunrise and sunset on the summer and winter solstices. Using long exposures and intentional camera movement, he creates painterly images that blur the beach, waves and clouds, capturing the atmosphere of these key dates in the seasonal cycle. The exhibition explores the relationship between moon, tide and lobster and opens on National Lobster Day, Friday 25th September 2026. It runs until March 2027 and is included with admission to the Hatchery Visitor Centre.
