Restant soi-même en devenant autre : un siècle d’adaptation par la diaspora arménienne dans la Vallée du Rhône
About
Clare St Lawrence follows Armenian displacement after 1915, settlement and industrial work in the Rhône Valley, community support, and the ways successive generations joined French society while maintaining cultural and religious life.
Beginning with the aftermath of the 1915 genocide, the talk traces Armenian migration to the Rhône Valley and the difficult working and living conditions that shaped early community life. It considers mutual support, religion and culture, and the gradual integration of later generations into French society, relating these experiences to the wider challenges faced by refugees. The talk is part of the Cercle Français de Chiswick’s French-language conference programme.
