Autumn Concert: Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev & Wallen
About
Frome Symphony Orchestra opens its 25th anniversary season with Wallen's Mighty River, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 2 and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2.
Frome Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026-27 season — its 25th anniversary year — with a programme of colour, drama and Russian romance. Errollyn Wallen's Mighty River, composed for the bicentenary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, weaves fragments of 'Amazing Grace' through a richly orchestrated soundscape. Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 2 brings the ballet's most powerful scenes to the concert hall, and the evening closes with Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, one of his most personal and lyrical works.
