About

The Mile End Institute marks Tom Chidwick’s book on Scotland’s first devolution referendum with a discussion of the 1979 campaign and its political legacy.

Academics, politicians and journalists discuss why the 1979 referendum was held, why a Scottish Assembly was not established then, and lessons for supporters of devolution, independence and the Union. The current page names Tom Chidwick, chair Carolyn Quinn, Baroness (Annabel) Goldie and Ben Jackson, and says more speakers will be announced. The event is in Peston Lecture Theatre, Graduate Centre, at Queen Mary’s Mile End Campus.
