Wetland Weekender: Botany Walk
About
A guided botany walk at the Otter Estuary exploring how plant life has changed since the Lower Otter Restoration Project.
Dr Sam Bridgewater leads a gentle two-hour walk through the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve, examining how habitats and plant species have evolved since the flood embankment breach in October 2023 completed the Lower Otter Restoration Project. Tidal waters returned to the lower Otter valley for the first time in over 200 years, and freshwater plants are declining as salt-tolerant saltmarsh and mudflat species establish. The walk follows flat gravelled paths with regular stops at viewing areas with benches, and much of the reserve is accessible for mobility scooters. No dogs; sturdy footwear recommended.
