Conservation day at Smardale Nature Reserve

Volunteer work parties at Smardale carry out scrub clearance, ride maintenance, coppicing and fence repairs along the disused railway to maintain wildlife habitat and reserve access.

These practical work parties support habitats for wildflowers, butterflies and other wildlife while maintaining access through Smardale. Published tasks include scrub clearance, ride maintenance, coppicing and fence repairs along the disused railway. The 8 December session is advertised as the last work party before Christmas, with a fire and food that participants may bring to cook. Published meeting directions identify the Smardale car park.
