Conservation days at Howe Ridding Wood Nature Reserve

Volunteer conservation sessions at Howe Ridding Wood, managing woodland habitat and its rare butterflies.

At this reserve on the side of Whitbarrow, the October session focuses on strimming and raking the central ride to improve flower-rich grassland. In January, volunteers dismantle a fence so its materials can be reused for a future coppice area. The reserve is accessed by a public footpath; the route can be muddy and has steep sections.
