Clothesmaking for Improvers
About
A 10-week intermediate dressmaking course at Mary Ward Centre, Stratford, teaching garment construction from commercial patterns.
This intermediate course teaches students how to make clothes from commercial patterns, covering pattern selection, fabric choice, laying out and cutting fabric, transferring markings and constructing a garment using a range of sewing techniques. It is aimed at people with previous garment-making experience or limited skills they wish to improve, and students should be able to confidently use a sewing machine. Teaching combines weekly demonstrations, written hand-outs, group discussion and one-to-one support over ten weekly three-hour sessions. Students buy their own fabric and basic sewing equipment.
