John Butcher / Phil Durrant / Mark Wastell

Improvised music trio John Butcher, Phil Durrant and Mark Wastell play two sets at the Vortex Jazz Club.

John Butcher (saxophone), Phil Durrant (electric mandolin) and Mark Wastell (drums) perform two sets of improvised music at the Vortex. The three first played together in the Chris Burn Ensemble in the late 1990s, and Butcher and Durrant previously formed an influential trio with guitarist John Russell from 1984. Wastell now plays a drum and cymbal set-up incorporating parts of John Stevens' original Spontaneous Music Ensemble kit.
