Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off
About
Citizens Theatre stages Liz Lochhead's Scots-language classic about the rivalry between Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I, directed by Finn den Hertog.
Liz Lochhead's play, first premiered 40 years ago, dramatises the deadly rivalry between Mary Queen of Scots and her cousin Elizabeth I through richly poetic Scots language and fairytale storytelling. This major new production, directed by Finn den Hertog, blends political relevance with theatrical wit and is recommended for ages 12+. Performances run at the Citizens Theatre's Main Theatre from 13 February to 6 March 2027, including matinees, a BSL-interpreted performance, an audio-described and captioned performance, and a post-show talk.
