Turner, Wedgwood and Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman
About
An exhibition at York Art Gallery marking 200 years since the death of York-born artist John Flaxman and his influence on Turner, Blake and Wedgwood.
Marking 200 years since the death of York-born artist John Flaxman, this exhibition celebrates his skill as a draughtsman, sculptor and designer and his lasting influence on art and design. Works from York Art Gallery's collection are shown alongside loans from institutions including the National Gallery, Royal Academy, V&A and Barber Institute, exploring Flaxman's impact on J.M.W Turner, William Blake and Josiah Wedgwood, whose iconic pottery used his classically styled designs. Produced in partnership with the University of York's History of Art Department, it is the first major exhibition dedicated to Flaxman in York.
