Preserving Southern’s Steam Heritage

An illustrated hybrid talk on Southern Locomotives Ltd and the preservation of Bulleid's steam locomotives, at Keen House and on Zoom.

An illustrated talk covering Oliver Bulleid's locomotive work in the 1940s and the evolution of Southern Locomotives Ltd, a restoration group that since 1982 has completed a locomotive restoration on average every five years. The talk discusses SLL's current fleet of seven Bulleid pacifics, a BR 4MT tank and two industrial locomotives, and concludes with the group's 2024 decision to work charter trains on the mainline. It is a hybrid lecture, held in person at Keen House and also available online via Zoom, with a bar serving snacks and drinks before, after and during the intermission.
