From Cabaret Star to Gaullist Spy: Josephine Baker’s Secret War
About
Hanna Diamond explores Josephine Baker’s wartime intelligence work and how the entertainer used her fame and international connections to support France and the Allied cause.
Drawing on archival research, the RHS Anniversary Lecture follows Baker’s activities in France, North Africa and the Middle East, considering intelligence work, propaganda, morale and her later commemoration. The advertised in-person booking runs 18:00–19:30 in the IHR Wolfson Suite at Senate House. The organiser says the Society’s AGM precedes the lecture within that evening; a separate public AGM session is not declared here. Contact the organiser before the event about mobility or access requirements.
