Culloden (1964)
About
A Faclan 2026 screening of Peter Watkins' 1964 docudrama Culloden, depicting the Jacobite defeat of 1746 in the style of modern TV war reporting.
Peter Watkins' 1964 docudrama portrays the defeat of the Jacobite Army by government troops at Culloden in 1746, an event that, in the narrator's words, "tore apart forever the clan system of the Scottish Highlands." Hailed as a breakthrough for presenting a historical event in the style of modern TV war reporting and for its use of non-professional actors, the film was based on John Prebble's study of the battle. The screening is part of the Faclan 2026 programme, with a runtime of 1 hour 9 minutes and a 12A BBFC rating.
