Painted Hall Display | Women at War: Wrens at Greenwich and Beyond
About
A display in the Painted Hall vestibule marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, telling the story of the Wrens trained at Greenwich.
This display marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the contribution of the Women's Royal Naval Service, the 'Wrens', whose Officer Training Course was established at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich in 1939. It presents documents and artefacts belonging to Jane Shorey and Nina Wilkin, two of the thousands of Wrens who trained there during the war years. Nina Wilkin's story spans a torpedo explosion, preparations for the D-Day invasion, service in Sri Lanka and caring for liberated prisoners of war. The display is included in the general Painted Hall admission ticket.
