Southern African Takeover
About
An afternoon of southern African culture at St Margaret's House with a marimba and djembe workshop, market stalls and a live performance by Otto and the Mutapa Calling.
The Southern African Takeover is a single-day event featuring a workshop and live performance by the London-based marimba band Otto and the Mutapa Calling, who play traditional music from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana. The afternoon opens at 12 noon with a workshop where participants can play marimba and djembe, sing and dance, with the chance to perform what they learned later in the day. From 1:30pm there are market stalls, southern African board games, art and music, with live entertainment from 2:30pm and the band playing from 3pm. The show finishes at 5pm, followed by a Q&A with the band until the event ends at 5:30pm.
