About
An evening lecture by Dr Chris King on the archaeology and heritage of the hundreds of human-carved caves beneath Nottingham.
Dr Chris King delivers an evening talk on Nottingham's sandstone caves, which range from medieval tanneries and malt-kilns to 18th-century sand-mines, Victorian follies, slum housing and WW2 air-raid shelters. He outlines a new collaborative project on the caves' archaeology and heritage, drawing on antiquarian, archaeological and community research, medieval archives and recent discoveries. The talk lasts 90 minutes and is organised by the Society for Lincolnshire History & Archaeology.
