A hands-on day lets participants stoke an 1883 Lancashire boiler, operate original beam and winding engines, work at the forge, and tour the station and reservoir.
This volunteer-led practical day teaches participants to stoke an 1883 Lancashire boiler and operate an original James Watt beam engine and the 1922 Robey winding engine from Linby Colliery. The programme also includes a guided station and reservoir tour, forge work, lunch and refreshments, and four workshop rotations. Participants must be over 18 and moderately fit; the group is limited to 12. Its booking form currently marks 27 March 2027 sold out.
