About

Actor and historian Jane Glennie gives a theatrical talk at Tudor House on the dangers of Victorian fashion and the Rational Dress Society.

Part of the Weekday Wonderings programme from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, this theatrical talk marks International Women's Day. Jane Glennie explores the hidden dangers of Victorian clothing — tight corsets, heavy garments and poisonous dyes and hat-making materials — and the creation of The Rational Dress Society, which campaigned for practical, comfortable dress. The session takes place in Tudor House's Georgian Room and includes museum admission on the day.
