The Celtic Warrior with Professor Melanie Giles
About
A public archaeology lecture in honour of Richard Bradley exploring violence and the Celtic warrior stereotype in Iron Age Britain.
Professor Melanie Giles of the University of Manchester delivers a public lecture examining the reality behind the popular image of the Celtic warrior in Iron Age Britain. Drawing on archaeological evidence from across Britain, she uses objects such as swords, shields, chariots and war horns to explore the changing nature of conflict from the centuries before Rome to the threat of Roman conquest, arguing that violence involved far more than warriors alone. The lecture is held in honour of Richard Bradley, Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at the University of Reading.
