About
Professor John Marenbon delivers the free Annual Cottingham Lecture asking whether philosophy's past is best understood as a canon or a history.
The Annual Cottingham Lecture 2026 features Professor John Marenbon of Trinity College, Cambridge speaking on 'Philosophy and its Past: A Canon or History?'. He explores whether a genuine history of philosophy — one suitably sceptical about the identity of its subject — may be more valuable, both as history and for philosophers. The talk runs from 18:00 to 19:30 and admission is free, though booking is essential.
