About

Marin Alsop conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Mahler’s Sixth Symphony and Bernstein’s Serenade, with Esther Yoo as violin soloist.

Bernstein’s Serenade, performed here by violinist Esther Yoo, draws on Plato’s Symposium and its discussion of love. Its dialogue between soloist and orchestra moves through rhythmic, playful and reflective passages. Marin Alsop also conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Mahler’s Sixth Symphony, a large-scale work marked by dramatic contrasts and sudden changes of mood. The published running time is two hours including a 20-minute interval. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult.
