Heritage Train Rides
About
A 35-40 minute heritage train ride in a vintage 1950s carriage along the historic coal route to the River Tyne at Stephenson Steam Railway.
Visitors take a four-mile return trip along the historic route once used by coal trains travelling from the collieries to the River Tyne, riding in a vintage 1950s passenger carriage. Each journey lasts approximately 35-40 minutes and is operated by the museum's volunteer team, subject to availability. Tickets also include access to the museum, home to Killingworth Billy, the world's third-oldest steam locomotive, plus an outdoor Woodland Walk. The ride is part of the Ways to Play programme of free and low-cost family-friendly activities.
